Backyard Tiny House
This all-new construction, ground-up project was designed for flexibility to accommodate a variety of use - home office, yoga studio, view terrace and guest house. The narrow, triangular volume expanding toward the view is dictated by the odd shape of the lot corner, and half of the interior is buried into the steep site. The shapes echo the mid-century vintage of the main house, while introducing a more contemporary and raw material focus, intended to invite weathering and patina. The attached timber trellis is integral to the building form, creating an outdoor room at the covered terrace linking the main multipurpose space to the surrounding garden and expanding the feeling of usable space well beyond the small footprint.
