Enlisted

Oakland, California, 2017

Featured Medium: Concrete + String

Medium Plenty’s client for this project, Enlisted Design, is a product and branding design firm that wanted to transform their full-floor studio space in an old mercantile building into something modern and remarkable. MP collaborated with founder and lead designer, Beau Oyler, to balance the clean and bright modernism of their product design with the raw feel of their workshop and maker space.

The concrete bones of the vintage building provided layered rhythm and texture. These were juxtaposed with white planes sliding through the light-filled space. New elements were visually choreographed to emphasize the monolithic impact of the newly exposed structural elements.

The subtle industrial backdrop allows the colorful string art installation by local artist Annie Tull to take top billing. The artwork acts as a metaphor to connect workspaces in ongoing collaboration.
